Please note
Fire sprinkler meters must only be used for the sprinklers, with no discharge to the wastewater network.
Backflow prevention
You must install a backflow prevention device for the new sprinkler connection. You must also test the device annually, and provide the test certificate and meter bypass details to us. Learn more about backflow.

Prepare your information Please make sure you provide all the required information and documents listed below. This will avoid delays in processing your application.
- Property address: The legal address that complies with Auckland Council numbering
- Lot and DP numbers, and Certificate of Title (CT), if property has a separate title: Find your CT on Auckland Council’s website. Enter your address, then choose the Property Information tab
- Property owner’s details
- Onsite contact person, e.g. plumber or builder
- Applicant’s details (if different)
- Auckland Council building consent and resource consent numbers, if available: For information, see Auckland Council's website.
- Site or drainage plan showing all existing and proposed public/private drains, private water pipes and backflow prevention devices. We do not install backflow devices for fire sprinklers. You will need to arrange for this, and test the device annually. Learn more: Backflow
- Calculations for the peak firefighting flows
- Block plan graph showing water pressure and flow needed to operate the sprinkler system, against pressure and flow available in the network
- Results of fire hydrant tests, and plans showing the test locations
- Fire safety report

We recommend you apply for the fire sprinkler connection at least 10 weeks before the date you want it installed.
We will either send you an application number or request any missing information, before we start our technical assessment.
During the assessment we review your information and plans, and work out the logistics of installing your new connection. We also calculate the full cost, based on:
- how long the assessment takes
- the scale and complexity of your connection and whether or not any other charges, such as traffic management, will apply

What is the timeframe for installing a connection?You can expect an invoice within 10 days of when we receive your application. We aim to deliver the service you have requested within 15 working days of receiving payment.
