Our contractor Fulton Hogan recently completed the early works package which included O’Donnell Avenue, Parkinson Avenue, Farrelly Avenue and Denize Road. Construction of a new bulk supply point chamber in the road near 2 La Veta Avenue and a pipeline connecting to an existing bulk supply chamber on Richardson Road was completed in early 2024.

Project overview

We are undertaking upgrades to the water network to cater for current and future development and population growth in the area. The project involves the construction of approximately 4,200 metres of new watermain with sections ranging from 200mm to 610mm in diameter, A new bulk supply point will also be constructed as part of the project. It will support 7,200 new dwellings proposed by Kāinga Ora, plus 770 infill dwellings within the Wesley neighbourhood.

Current works

The map below shows each project area and the different stages of work.

Richardson Road

We had planned to start construction on 7 January of a 610-diameter pipe adjacent to the Richardson Road bridge which crosses over Oakley Creek. But, due to a delay in getting resource consent that work has been delayed. We did, however, begin laying the watermain as shown on the map below. This section of works is estimated to take approximately five months to complete, and access into Kukuwai Park/Hendon Avenue Reserve and footpaths will remain open. We will provide updates of when the pipe bridge works will commence.

Please refer to the below map for the works area.

La Veta Avenue connecting into the Mt Albert Ōwairaka Reservoir

Work to lay the watermain on the top section of La Veta Avenue and connect into the reservoir located on Mt Albert/Ōwairaka commenced in early January. These works are estimated to take approximately five months to complete.

The proposed work includes the installation of a 610mm diameter pipe, which connects to the existing network located within Ōwairaka Domain. The installation will replace the redundant 310mm diameter pipeline and be installed using an open cut trench methodology.

While the removal of vegetation is required as part of the proposed works, once the works are completed replacement planting of native trees will take place. Replacement trees to be planted include Karamu, Houpara, Manuka, Mapou, Karo, Mahoe and Kowhai.

Please refer to the below map for the works area.

Denny Avenue

Our crew is making good progress on this section of works. As we prepare to pass the Glenarm Avenue intersection, the team will look to lay the watermain in two sections to allow access for residents.

Residents who live within the work area will have very limited space to access driveways and your street, please follow the directions of the traffic controllers to navigate around the worksite safely.

The estimated finish date for all works on Denny Avenue is early May.
