The latest - Geotechnical investigations
As part of the project our contractor will be commencing geotechnical investigations in the community. These geotechnical investigations are required to add to our knowledge of soil, geology, and groundwater conditions for this project. We will begin these geotechnical investigations from April – May 2025. Investigations will take place in reserves and at locations along the proposed tunnel alignment. In some cases, traffic management will be in place. Please keep an eye out in the coming weeks for further updates.
Project overview
The proposed project is aimed at reducing wastewater overflows and improving stream and beach water quality within the Hobson Bay catchment.
This project aims to transport wet weather flows from Engineered Overflow Points (EOP) during rain events to a storage tunnel before being passed on to the downstream network once the peak flows have passed. It will improve the collection and conveyance of wastewater to minimise the occurrence of spills and uncontrolled overflows that occur within the Hobson Bay catchment. The new wastewater tunnel will connect to three branch sewers located in the area.
Timeline
Construction is estimated to take place between mid-2029 and mid-2034 across the works area displayed on the map below.
Please refer to the maps for the proposed works areas.
