Judges Bay wastewater repair

Background

The unprecedented weather events of early 2023 caused an underground collapse under the Parnell Rose Gardens which in turn broke a wastewater transmission sewer line approximately 25 metres below the ground. Since this event occurred, we have had a temporary bypass in place.

Project overview

Permanent repair

As the break has occurred deep underground, we are unable to replace like for like without substantial disruption to the Rose Gardens. Therefore, we are installing a permanent solution that will include:

• A small pre-packaged submersible wastewater pump station on the North-Western corner of the Judges Bay Rd Intersection with Bridgewater Rd

• A rising main along Judges Bay Road to be installed by Horizontal Directional Drilling.

• A gravity sewer along Cleveland Road to be installed by Horizontal Directional Drilling.

Works are scheduled as follows

Judges Bay Pump Station

• Start: 9 September

• Finish: Mid July 2025

Judges Bay Road rising main

• Start: Early December 2024

• Finish: Early February 2025

Clevedon Road gravity sewer

• Start: Mid January 2025

• Finish: Late April 2025

Our contractor Pipeline & Civil will start works at the Judges Bay Road intersection with Bridgewater Road in Parnell for the installation of the pre-packaged pump station which will include site clearance, minor earthworks, installation of a shaft and pump station installation, before reinstatement, testing, and commissioning.

How will this affect you?

Working hours

• Will be 7am – 6pm Monday through Saturday (work will only be undertaken on Saturdays if necessary).

Traffic management

• Will be in place 24/7 during construction for the safety of the public, traffic movement, and our workers. Judges Bay Rd Intersection with Bridgewater Rd will operate under a 3-way stop/go. Please allow extra time for travel.

• On-street parking on the lower section of Judges Bay Reserve adjacent to Dove Myer Robinson Park will not be available, or will be significantly reduced, during construction. Please do not park on Judges Bay Rd or Bridgewater Rd at any stage where ‘no parking’ cones have been placed on the road as this could cause work delays.

• Resident vehicle access will remain open for residents, their guests and service providers.
• Pedestrian access will always be maintained along Judges Bay Rd and Bridgewater Road during this works.

Noise and vibration

• Works will generate some noise and vibration; however, actions will be taken by the Contractor to minimise disruption.
