The latest
Geotechnical investigations from late January Our contractor will be doing geotechnical investigations in the community between late January and March. Investigations will take place in reserves and at locations along the proposed tunnel routes. These investigations are required to add to our knowledge of soil, geology, and groundwater conditions for these projects. In some cases, traffic management will be in place.
Project overview
These projects form part of our broader Western Isthmus Water Quality Improvement Programme (WIWQIP) of works which is a joint initiative between us and Auckland Council. It’s aimed at reducing wastewater overflows and improving stream and beach quality across the city’s central isthmus.
The proposal
- The construction of new wastewater pipes that will cater for growth whilst reducing the frequency and extent of overflows.
- The pipes will transport overflows from several areas to the Central Interceptor. The proposed pipeline will connect at various locations to the existing network and discharge to the Central Interceptor project at the downstream end. It will improve the collection and conveyance of wastewater and minimise the occurrence of spills and uncontrolled overflows that occur in the Grey Lynn and Westmere catchments.
Please refer to the map below for the proposed works areas.
