Water outage Henderson Valley

Situation

Thursday 23 January

A break in a large-diameter watermain on Mountain Road in Henderson Valley has caused a water outage to parts of west Auckland.

Customers living at higher elevations are likely to experience no water. Others may find they have lower pressure than normal. If you have very low pressure or no water, please remember to turn your taps off.

Affected suburbs

Affected suburbs are: Henderson, Henderson Valley, Glen Eden, Kaurilands, Sunnyvale, Oratia.

Please refer to the map below for the suburbs that are and that may be affected.

How long will the water be off for?

At this stage we don’t know how long the water will be off however it could be up to 24 hours. Our crews are working to repair the broken pipe and restore water to our customers as soon as possible.

Within hours of the break, we were able to reconfigure the network to reduce the size of the area impacted. This means we now believe up to 3,000 people are currently without water, with potentially up to 7000 people with low water pressure.

Are there any water tankers providing water?

We have arranged tankers to supply emergency water.

They are located at:

  • Corner of Archibald Road / Netherlands Avenue
  • 255 Henderson Valley Road
  • 391 Henderson Valley Road
  • Corner of Maywood Crescent and Glengarry Road.

I have low water pressure. Do I need to save water?

Yes, please. If you can avoid using your washing machine and dishwasher over the next 24 hours, that would be helpful. Also, please keep your showers short – 4 minutes or less.

Is Mountain Road closed to traffic?

Yes, we have had to close a section of Mountain Road to traffic in both directions. While we don't have exact timings right now, we expect it will remain closed for at least 48 hours.
