Prices to increase from 1 July 2024
12 June 2024Our water and wastewater prices will increase by 7.2 per cent on 1 July 2024.
This means households with average water use will pay around $8.08 more per month.
The price rises are necessary to ensure our customers continue to receive safe and reliable water and wastewater services. All of the money we receive from our customers goes into operating, maintaining, and expanding our infrastructure. We do not set out to make a profit or pay and we do not pay a dividend to our shareholder, Auckland Council.
Landlords who pay their fixed wastewater charge as a lump sum in July will see this price change applied to their next bill. It’s important that tenants are aware of this change, especially if they have set up a recurring payment. The landlord is required pay the lump sum two days ahead of the due date.
Infrastructure growth charges
Infrastructure growth charges (IGCs) will increase by 14.4 per cent on 1 July 2024.
This means a water and wastewater IGC for customers in metropolitan Auckland will be $21,174.95 including GST.
An infrastructure growth charge is a one-off fee paid by any customer requiring a new connection or by business customers increasing a property’s demand for water and wastewater services.
Other charges
From 1 July 2024, we will be charging a flat fee of $85 to cover the property transfer service. This includes carrying out the final water meter reading, providing the final bill and transferring ownership.
Currently, we charge $31.05 for the final water meter reading only. The new fee allows us to recover the true cost of providing the service. This aligns more closely with fees charged by councils around the country.
Any final meter readings completed after 1 July will be charged at the new rate, regardless of the date they were booked.
